Meeting with the Cooperation Teacher and Classes Observation

Jan 17, 2019

It’s our third day we are here and the schedule for today was meeting with all of the cooperation teachers in the morning and observation classes in the afternoon. There were four of us that will be teaching in the grade school. First, we ate our breakfast in our rooms and went straight to the school at 7 in the morning. Before the meeting, we attended the flag ceremony at 7.20 a.m. We were being introduced one by one in front of the students.

Flag Ceremony

After the flag ceremony, we waited in the Team Leader’s Faculty. All of the participants gathered before going to the boardroom. The meeting opened by Ma’am Alejandra Jeanie as the grade school assistant principal. Ma’am AJ explained about the grade school and we also told our expectation as a teacher students.

Ma'am AJ was discussing about the curriculum

Im gonna be teaching in Grade 2, English Subject with Ma’am April Joy Dag-uman as my cooperating teacher. She teaches English for language and reading and she is the adviser for St. MA Gorreti class, which is science section.

After the meeting ended, Ma’am Joy introduced me to all of the grade two classes. The pupils were so welcoming, they were so curious and asked me about everything. Since there’s gonna be a university celebration or SPUS week that will be held on Jan 23 -25, and all of the grades have to perform so for today’s observation there was only a practice. The theme for the grade school is Anime. One Piece is the grade two’s theme.

Ma’am Joy told that all of the the pupils of Grade 2 are 82 in total and 25 – 30 pupils per class. All of the grade two classes are on the second floor. From the practice, I saw the culture in the class here. The pupils practiced over and over again even though they were tired already from the morning classes. The teachers and pupils have been trying their best to make it perfect. After the practice ended, Ma’am Joy gave me her schedule, the curriculum map and lesson plan for language and reading. We were sharing our culture in school. Not only that, but we were sharing a lot about other things such as regions, rules, cultures, families, and etc. I learned quite a lot for today.

Grade 2 Classes were practicing for SPUS Week

Jan 18, 2019

For the next day, my morning started from the flag ceremony and I had to stand in front of the grade 2 classes and I observed Ma’am Joy's Homeroom Guidance (HRG) class. Before the class started, ma’am Joy wrote the objectives for today’s class and asked one of the pupils to write the number of presence and absent pupils. Ma’am Joy discussed with the class through power point presentation. The intresting part that I really like from that class was the Imaginative Talk. Ma’am Joy asked the pupils to close their eyes and imagine about how their parents bless them at home. The class closed with the pupils wrote their own letter to thank their parents. The class was following by the practice in the field. I learned the moves already so I was helping Ma’am Joy with the pupils.

HRG Class in St. MA. Goretti Class

In the afternoon, Ma’am Joy only had three sections in three classes left. However I only observed two classes because there will be a meeting with Ma’am Su about our foods.

I observed the language classes in St. Therres class and St. Agnes class. For the first class that I observed, Ma’am Joy got ready the class and started with the prayer and greeting. Ma’am Joy and the pupils recalled the previous materials. The topic for today was The Preposition. The teacher discussed with the class for a few minutes, she explained the preposition using power point presentation. She divided the class into two groups and told the pupils about the games. Ma’am Joy told the pupils the questions and the pupils had to raise their hands when Ma'am Joy said "down" to answer the questions and the group with most answer will be the winner.

The pupils were so exciting about the games and almost all of them were trying to answer the questions. For the last question Ma’am Joy made the games more interesting by picking up one pupil from the group and did rock paper scissors for five times, the one who win gonna answer the last question. The game ended up with group two as the winner. Ma’am Joy concluded the topic and closed the class with the prayer and greeting. After this class, Ma’am Joy had twenty minutes vacant and we went to faculty room, I had a great talk with another teachers there.

The last class that I observed is St. Therres class. It’s also the language subject with the same topic and objectives. Ma’am Joy didn’t present the power point due the time. She discussed with the same methods and games. I could say that all of the pupils were very exciting when it comes to games. When the class seemed to unfocused and kinda had the sleepy feeling, Ma’am Joy asked the pupils to move their bodies and it made them focused again. The game ended up with the group one as the winner. Ma’am Joy closed the class with the prayer and greeting.

After the observation, we had a meeting with Ma’am Su in the boardroom and a short brief with Suster Nicole about tomorrow’s activity which is Tour to Butuan. We also went out with out buddies.

What a great day.
